I wanted to retire soon but my pensions were scattered all over the place. I realised I needed financial advice but I was reluctant to trust a stranger with my financial affairs.
After years of running my own painting and decorating business, I was looking forward to retirement. However, as I approached 60, it became clear things weren’t quite so straight forward – I held pensions with different providers and I didn’t know if I would have enough to fund my lifestyle in retirement.
A friend recommended that I meet with Kelsall Steele Investment Services. Initially I felt distrustful and reluctant to meet as my previous experience with an IFA had left me feeling like I was being pressured into buying products.
I met with Lucien, a Financial Planner at Kelsall Steele Investment Services, to see if he could do anything for me. We had a number of meetings, allowing us to get to know one another. I took my time before feeling comfortable with him and the firm. There was no pressure, which gave me the confidence to take things further.
Lucien took his time to explain my retirement options. He looked at my total savings which consisted of pensions stretching back to the Eighties and £80,000 in a building society account that I had accumulated throughout my working life. In their analysis Kelsall Steele Investment Services identified I hadn’t been taking advantage of my tax free ISA allowance. I agreed with their recommendations and as a result we consolidated my pensions onto one platform.
My pensions, along with the £80,000 I previously held in my building society account are now consolidated under one arrangement. My money can now be managed more effectively and I am able to draw an income. Everything is simplified and far easier to manage.
My pensions and savings are now much more transparent, and thanks to Lucien’s help, I’m on track to retire in 5 years time.
